STEALING MANGOES
This series of paintings is inspired by my memories of childhood in the garden, in particular the mango tree that dominated our surrounding with its size and fragrant fruit. I am interested in exploring the relationship of the landscapes where our personal histories are shaped and the overall power and mystery of Earth (mother).
The paintings show different memories and understandings of trees and wind in the landscape - as dominant, as directional, as part of an overall matrix of sky and earth. I strive to find the physicality of the wind and sky and the fluidity of the earth and wood. The landscapes as shown in the work are not real in the sense of being images of concrete places - instead they are the reality of my memory and the place where I began to explore and understand the world.
