SOMETHING TO SAY
My work is about memory, often about my home country Bangladesh. This series started with an exploration of the ship un-building industry located on the southern coast of the Chittagong region. Decommissioned ships are dragged onto the beaches and slowly stripped of their inner workings and outer cladding. The first piece in this series, Study #1, is a detail of one of these ships, pulled back to the most basic elements of metal meeting metal. As the series moved forward, I stripped the visual language back even further and it became an exercise in windows and movement, pulling detail away until the work becomes a skeleton of its most basic elements.
