GARDEN BEDS
I completed this series of paintings in early 2020, when fear and illness caused by the Covid 19 virus gripped my community in Queens, New York. As winter faded into spring, I started riding my bicycle almost daily through the neighborhoods of Queens to reach my studio, where I could escape safely into my creative work. At first, the city was almost soundless and empty of people, but the beauty of nature would not be silenced by the pandemic. Trees blossomed, flowers bloomed, and I was inspired to bring this natural life into a new series of paintings that would start where my previous studies of line and friction left off.
